Sorry!

I just realized I haven't blogged in a while. Oops. So how was the weekend? I learned something Saturday. I learned that church, dinner at the Mexican restaurant, and a trip to Walmart all in one night makes for one cranky baby. People were probably staring at us. Oh well! The inlaws came to visit Sunday. And they brought pasta gravy. Yes- THAT pasta gravy. Go ahead- be jealous. I'd be if I were you. That and a yummy adult blueberry lemonade made for a perfect lazy Sunday at our house.

Today I'm working on getting my house clean. Spotless at that. I might be having company tomorrow.... Oh and I'm probably going back to my old blonde self when I go see my girl at the salon later. We'll see!! But first things first- gotta go make Kittrell happy!

Updates

So,  last week went like this:  Tuesday-  took Kitttrell to the doctor at lunch, he had a good ol' double ear infection.  Great.  Crying baby.  All day long.  About 4:00 I found Abel and called Daniel in a panic to come home and get him to the vet.  While waiting to hear from Daniel after he took Abel, my mom called to tell me about my dad's wreck/ tornado adventure.  This was all in one afternoon.

Wednesday I ate a cheeseburger and fries (because that is what always makes me feel better) and Daniel stayed home that morning to help me around the house, and let me get some sleep since my night before wasn't the best.  He went to work after we heard from the vet that Abel's amputation went well.

Thursday I got up and sat by the phone until I heard what time we were going to get Abel.  After lunch we could get him!  That was the longest morning ever.  Thursday afternoon, we went and got Abel-  happy to have him home, so sad he is gong through this, and so mad someone would do that to him!!

Friday morning, bright and early, I headed to Greenwood for my Dad's surgery.  It was a long day of waiting, but all went well.  Saw some good friends and had some great conversation that night.

First thing Saturday morning, back to the hospital, where pain meds were not even working!  My poor Dad.  Sat with him and my mom that day before heading back home to Little Rock.  By the time I got home to Daniel, Kittrell, and Abel, I was sick.  Exhausted.  Ready for a new week!  I'm so glad Saturday is OVER!  I went to bed at 7:00 and slept until 8:00 the next morning.  Thank you Daniel!  I needed that.  I was starting to feel a lot better.

Daniel helped my out a lot Sunday, also.  I know I say this a lot, but I'm very lucky.  Thank goodness for such great positive friends and family-  I made it through Sunday also!  ( and the Giants are going to the Superbowl!!)

Now it's Monday.  Ahh- Monday.  You would think I was well rested and having a great morning.  But no.  I went to bed at 4:00 this morning.  Because I can't sleep when there are tornadoes everywhere.  And they didn't leave until 4:00. So I got 2 hours sleep.  I wanted to lay on the couch and close my eyes for just a minute earlier today, but then Abel started barking.  Ugh.  I can't ignore that sweet baby!  So,  today should be fun.  Between a 6 month old who is crawling all over the place and a hurt pup who can't lick/ bite/ scratch/ rub his staples in his leg, I'm going to be constantly watching them.  Did I mention that Kittrell spends most of his time trying to get to Abel?  That won't be good if it happens with my back turned!! And yes- Abel has a cone.  But be honest-  would you want you dog wearing that thing 24/7?  I didn't think so!

Here's to a week that's better than the last!!

One day at a time...

This week has been one that I hope to never have to experience again. But thanks to wonderful family and friends (and wine) and their support, I think my family is going to be just fine. Abel came home from the vet today!! Although all I want to do is hold him and cry, I know I have to be the strong mama and not let him see me upset. I certainly don't want to upset him!! He is certainly tired, and I can see the pain in his eyes, but we are going to be there for him every step of the way. He is hopping around just fine. He is looking very very skinny, but we will fix that right up!! We bought extra treats for him and even a new bed!! All he has to do for the next couple of weeks is rest and eat. We are so thankful that he only lost his leg and we didn't have to lose him. Abel is one strong pup!! Daniel turned me on to a website- www.tripawds.com- I laughed, I cried. A website full of people with inspiring stories. It gave me that little bit of extra hope and strength I needed. Honestly, I had no idea where to begin. What do you do? How do you prepare for your dog's homecoming after such a tragedy? I cleaned my house top to bottom and even rearranged my living room for 'easier access' for him to get around. The main thing is, though, that he is home. And he will get better. We've missed him so much!! Welcome home Abel!!!

I'm heading home to the delta tomorrow to see my dad. His surgery on his leg is sometime tomorrow afternoon. He'll be fixed up in no time! (we certainly hope so, at least!)

Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday tomorrow!!

Sunday funday!!

Since Ashlyn has learned to ride her new bike without training wheels, that's all she wants to do now!! And sitting outside watching her sure does wear Kittrell out!

Ugh

It's nasty outside. I don't want to do anything!! Notice I said 'want to' instead of 'wanna'. Slang is taking a break here at the Smith house because when I checked Ashlyn's homework last night, one of her sentences had the word 'gonna' in it. Living in the hills will do that to you. Back to being lazy. I've been lazy since the 2nd quarter of the game last night. TERRIBLE. I think I have it figured out though. Jordan Jefferson is blackmailing Les Miles. And that's why Jarret Lee never stepped foot on the field last night. Either that or Bama paid Jefferson a ridic amount of money to throw the game. But it's all good. Bama 'out physical'd LSU. Bahahaha. Tell me you saw Bama guy say that in his post game interview! Fast forward to this morning- Kittrell and I are being super lazy. Well, mostly just me. He's been crawling all over the place!! He loves his turtle, so I just move it around and watch him take off after it. I'll eventually get in the kitchen and start doing those dishes....

Weekend Birthday Bash

How was your weekend??   Ours was great.  We stayed in Little Rock.  For the first time in MONTHS.  Seriously.  I was a little in freak out mode thinking I had 10 loads of laundry to do and a whole house to clean yesterday afternoon- then Daniel reminded me that we hadn't been out of town and the house was just fine.  And also, for the first time in a while, I'm doing my Monday morning laundry and only have 2 loads.  That never happens.  (It's usually at the least, 10.)

We had the family over for the weekend, along with the Cooper's and celebrated Ashlyn's 8th birthday.  Thank goodness, the rain held off!!  Fireworks, a bonfire, a really good birthday dinner, and cake!!  And I had my fair share of cake- Weight Watchers starts back today.  I'm sad and happy about that one all at the same time.

And the highlight of the weekend??  Ashlyn rode her new bike!!  The significance of the new bike is that she asked for it from Santa.  She wanted a big bike- with a kick stand and NO training wheels.  We have struggled to get her on the thing, but as soon as her friends showed up to her party Saturday night she jumped on it to show off.  A I'll be damned if she didn't actually get on and take off riding.  All by herself!  So excited!!

Cake

What do you do when you have to make a cake for your daughter's birthday party and the last thing in the world you wanna do is pull out piping bags and bowls and mix icing with 20 different food colorings? Simple. You just squeeze out all the gel food colorings over the top of the cake and then get happy swirling them around with a few case knives. So much fun. And pretty darn good looking if you ask me.

8 years

What does my beautiful 8 year old want for her birthday? Brownies, her mama's homemade spaghetti and meatballs because they are 'the best ever' as she says (no really- they are), and a camouflage iPod cover. Her wish is our command!! But she didn't get the camo one, she got a girly cover instead. Because she told me at 8:00 last night that she wanted a camo one. To late, baby!! You know what else she told me? Yesterday morning when she woke up, she came in my room and said,"Guess what? Tomorrow is my birthday. That means you have to get me a present.". Oh really... No- she's not spoiled at all. She also told me at 8:00 last night that she wanted to take cupcakes to school. I guess she forgot that we live in the middle of nowhere and can't just run to the store. Don't worry. We made do with what we had around the house. She and her classmates got some birthday treats. So anyways, the spaghetti was great, and who doesn't love a brownie?? Happy birthday, Ashlyn!! Stop growing so dang fast!! I love you!!
