Time Flies....

When you're waiting on a baby!

Is it really Thursday already?? I just got in from my morning walk. Because Daniel seems to think if I walk around the baby is just gonna come on out?? Cute. My back hurts from walking, but whatever he wants to try I'll try. And yet still, no baby! I can't believe June is pretty much gone. Seriously, where did this month go?

We have got to figure out what we wanna cook for the 4th. I assume we will spend the day in the pool, and cooking. Ashlyn wants BBQ chicken legs and ribs. We shall see, my dear. All I want is potato salad, because, sadly, I will be laying off of the potatoes soon. But believe you me, as soon as I get back to the pre- baby weight, I plan on going to Greenwood and begging the chef at Giardina's to fix me some of his awesome gnochi. I don't think I spelled that right. Or maybe I did. Hmmm.

Since I know you've been waiting patiently, here is the latest picture of Sofie Jayne sleeping like the little angel she is!

Another Week Down....

We had another doctor's appointment today. And still... nothing. Kittrell is happy in my belly and I haven't progressed a single centimeter. My posture, however, is great considering I can't bend in any direction because my belly is all baby. All I can do is sit straight up! Kittrell is 7 lbs and 3 oz- give or take a pound. Which means he could weigh 8 pounds. 8 POUNDS PEOPLE. I don't know if I can do it!! My dad is out on the road, and will be home Monday. So maybe, just maybe, Kittrell is waiting on his grandaddy to get here before he makes his debut. Of course, doc said we would discuss inducing next week. But I kind of find myself thinking too hard about that. Of course I want a surprise run to the hospital in the middle of the night- call up the grandparents and announce that it's time- all that excitement! But, inducing also means I can have Ashlyn ready to go, the grandparents can know when to be here, etc, and it will probably be a little more calm for me. I'm torn. But I guess there's no reason to think too hard about it- it's really up to Kittrell. And while I'm thinking about it, my camera is all the way on the other side of the house in my purse.. hmm- yeah I don't feel like getting up to get it, so no pictures for you today.

How about this nasty weather today? The thunderstorms here in Little Rock just might blow us away. Let's hope not.

Daniel took me to Cracker Barrel for lunch as a pick-me-up after the news at the doctor that I haven't progessed any. I was happy at first, but now I'm stuffed, miserable, can't move, and still sad. At least he tried to cheer me up. Well, I guess he did because I had fried chicken with a side of three different carbs. Life's good.

So, in conclusion, Happy Tuesday, yall! Next week, Daniel, Ashlyn, and I are gonna have a baby!

Casseroles and Canning

Daniel and I have spent the better part of our Sunday afternoon cooking. I decided we needed some casseroles in the freezer for when we have our baby (!) and our garden is beginning to produce. The garden is especially producing a lot of jalapeno peppers and a TON of zucchini. So, we made chicken spaghetti (per Ashlyn's request) and some fantastic squash and zucchini dressing.
Let me just take a time out to talk about the dressing. [(MOM) This, that you see in the pic, is squash dressing- and I added zucchini to it because we have a load of it that needs to be used. This is NOT squash casserole. It is dressing with squash and zucchini in it. It is NOT what you call squash dressing. What you call squash dressing is actually squash casserole! Some people put chicken or turkey in their dressing, but this particular squash and zucchini dressing has squash and zucchini in it-no meat- just a vegetable filled dressing. Does this make sense now?] Sorry- my mom and I have argued in the past about what exactly "squash dressing" is. And here it is!
Also, ta-da! It's our first attempt at canning. Oh, believe me- there will be a lot more where this came from. And yes- it's only 2 jars, but come on- it's a start. And our very first time. Ok, so it's Daniel's very first time- I didn't help at all nor could I if I wanted to, because I know nothing about canning. This weekend, jalapenos, next weekend, pickles! If you're nice to me, I'll share some of our canned goodness with you that is to come this summer. :)

P.S.- Thanks for the new pictures, Kiki! I expect a new updated photo of Sofie Jayne every day from now on. :) Thanks!

Just Can't Get Enough!

Baby pictures, that is! Sofia is steadily growing!!!

Awww....

Oh my goodness!!!

Somebody please pick up that child instead of take pictures of her!!

That's better!!

Waiting

It's been a long end of the week. Tomorrow, I will be 38 weeks pregnant. 38 very long weeks. Everybody is having their babies... and I'm just patiently awaiting my turn. I think Kittrell really likes being in his mama's belly. :) And that is perfectly fine with me. (Except I'm putting my foot down when we reach 40 weeks. He's gotta come on out by then!) I think I've said that like 100 times already.
Other reasons it's been a long week? Ashlyn is SICK. Poor thing came down with a stomach virus Wednesday night. And she still can't eat anything. Ash likes to eat just like her mama, so when I cooked her favorite- fried green tomatoes- for lunch and she didn't want any, I knew she still felt bad! :( Tomorrow is Saturday- or as we at the Smith house call it, "Funday". So hopefully she will be feeling better by then!
Have I mentioned yet that I don't sleep anymore? Well, I don't. My son tends to make things very uncomfortable for me. I can't complain, though. I get like 2-3 naps a day. And I like that very much.
Also- I like summer. Except for the heat, of course. But what I really don't like? Re-runs. As you can probably expect, I nap a lot and watch a lot of TV. But sadly, only re-runs. This is making me go a little stir-crazy. Ah- but my soap operas- they don't let me down! OMG have you seen One Life To Live lately? Shut the front door. (Seriously, they need to go ahead and cancel this show soon before I get to be too bad of an addict.) And can somebody please already tell John that he is Natalie's baby's daddy??!!
Well, I think I'm ready for another nap....
Happy weekend!! Hopefully we'll have us a baby soon!!! Yay!!

Sofia- 1 Day Old!

And here it is- the best pic of the day. Meme scaring the hell out of poor little Sofia! Ok, so Meme didn't make her make this face. Apparently, Sofia already had this scared look on her face, and when Meme (my mom) went to comfort her, this picture was taken. Priceless. :)

Daniel and I think Sofia looks completely different today than yesterday.. But still just as beautiful as can be!! Daniel and I also got to hear Sofia crying over the phone today- precious!! (Kristin may not think it's precious, but we do!) We can't wait for our little one to get here! And I'm sure Daniel especially can't wait- the first thing he said to me this morning was, "You moaned and groaned ALL night last night." My response? A very sarcastic sorry. And judging by the tummy, side, and back pains I'm having right now, I bet we won't sleep tonight, either! Oh well- we need to get used to that.

Crazy Cat

If Marina Katie Funcat doesn't hurry up and catch her tail soon, I'm afraid all of the couch cushions and pillows in our home will be destroyed. On a funnier note, Abel has taught the cat how to bark. SO funny. We have a barking cat.

Sofia Jayne Zapien

We've got a baby! And a name!!! Congratulations, Kristin and Javier!! She is BEAUTIFUL!!! We can't wait to meet you, Sofia!!

French Toast? Who Knew!!!

Ok, so I wouldn't necessarily say I write a "food blog". However, it seems that I post about food a lot. (Imagine that.) Ashlyn's Nana sent some fresh blueberries our way this past Sunday. I used to not like them, but for some reason, I do now. Another thing I used to hate? French toast. You couldn't get me to try that stuff. I've never even cooked it before. Daniel doesn't usually eat it either, and neither does Ash. So what do I do? Make french toast with blueberries for breakfast and it was the most absolute amazing thing I've ever eaten in my life. Seriously. Come to Little Rock and I will so cook you some.

Breakfast was definitely a highlight of my day. Know what the most major highlight of this day is?!?! Kristin's at the hospital. Having a baby. Right now. I'm super excited. REALLY REALLY REALLY wish I was there. If anyone has a spare airplane sitting around and a pilot's license swing by Meridian, pick me up, and deliver me to Memphis, please! A helicoptor would work, also. I can't wait to meet "baby girl"!! (Yeah- still no name yet....) Updates to follow!!

Food

Several of you have asked what Daniel and I did for our anniversary this past Saturday. Well, nothing. We played Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud on the Wii. We also played in the pool for a bit. But the best part was dinner. We had fried green tomato BLT's with homemade comeback sauce and sweet potato fries. Because that's what I wanted, and you just can't get food like that around here. Especially comeback sauce. No one even knows what that is. Crazy how Mississippi seems to be a completely different country over here where we live. Glad we had some big green tomatoes in the garden. Give me about 3 more of these sandwiches and a nap and I will be one happy pregnant woman.

Happy Anniversary!!!

A year ago today, I married my best friend. It has been the best year of my life. Someone just should have told my husband that you shouldn't give an emotional nine month pregnant woman one of the sweetest anniversary cards ever first thing in the morning. Because I will be crying all day thinking about it. He is the best. :)

I Have GOT to Stop!!

Buying new things for Kittrell, that is. But I just can't! Here's a new hang out spot for Kittrell. It will also be his bed at his Meme's house, I'm sure. It's super easy to pack up and take along on a road trip. Now, what can I buy next??...

It's 8:15. It's Friday morning. And I can't seem to get Ashlyn out of the bed. I think summer is finally taking a hold of her!! Yay! (Plus, Geyser Falls wore the both of us out yesterday- I finally had to remind Ash that I was 9 months pregnant and needed a nap big time- so we had to go!)

I have a big weekend ahead of me. It's my 1 year wedding anniversary tomorrow. And I couldn't be happier. :) Also, we just may have a special Father's Day planned for my special husband on Sunday. Even though Ashlyn can't seem to keep a secret and spilled the beans to Daniel yesterday about what the gift is we got for him. I swear that child can't keep her mouth shut! Oh, well. He has specific instructions to still act surprised. From now on, I'm shopping by myself!

Bring on the Tylenol!!

Thanks, Fraiser and Mauri. I REALLY appreciate it. (Insert sarcasm here.) At least my "babies" are having fun!

Nesting??

My house is clean. Too clean, in fact. I can't seem to find much else to do. So, Ashlyn and I are spending a lot of girl time together. Too much time, in fact, because we are just alike and seem to but heads quite often. But that's fine. Another reason to head to Geyser Falls tomorrow to get her and me out of this house! We all got out of the house today and headed to Meridian to another ultrasound and doctor's appointment. Kittrell is packed tightly in my belly!! And already 6 pounds! By this time in my pregnancy with Ashlyn, she was born and only 4lbs 15oz. So, I've never carried a baby this long, and I've never had a 6 pound baby in my belly before! I knew he was big, though. Considering I don't sleep anymore because of him. We are ready and waiting!! (Judging by the placement of his head, which I like to call "low and ready to go", I'd say he was ready, too!) Only 3 1/2 weeks to go!
Kittrell had his hand in his mouth during the entire ultrasound- so cute!

LOVE!

I do believe it's safe to say that yesterday was pretty awesome. Daniel, Ashlyn and I got an unbelievable amount of fantastic gifts at my baby shower. AND the stroller and carseat? Well, that's on it's way, too! I seriously can't thing of anything else we could possibly need. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! We love you guys so, so much!!!
Kittrell got his first tackle box!! (Along with specific instructions for Danny NOT to be the one to teach him how to fish!)

Ashlyn is the best!

(You just know we HAD to put everything together as soon as we got home!)

Me and Kiki!

Getting Ready for the Weekend!

First of all, my dog has got to relax. One of Marina Katie Funcat's favorite places is under the recliner, and Abel freaks out when he doesn't have his eye on her. He usually goes outside around midnight every night. But last night, he actually slept- and didn't need to be let out until close to 5 a.m. He's such a good "uncle" to the new kitty.

I've been cleaning house all day because guess what!!?? I'm actually having house guests Sunday!! People really DO like us and want to come visit! I kid. And our company is only my parents and my in-laws, but still, I have some people to entertain! We are heading to Greenwood tomorrow for dinner with the family, followed by one last outing to Webster's for Uncle Bubba's birthday party. (I hope the party begins early, because that's the only time I can make it...) Saturday is BABY SHOWER DAY!! We are excited, can't you tell? Then Saturday night, I will be back in Little Rock, in my own bed, getting up every other hour to either pee or remove feet from my rib cage. The joys of pregnancy. :) Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!! See you Greenwood folks soon!

Surprise!

Ash- Where are we going?
Daniel- To the store.

Oh my goodness! KITTENS!

AHHH! Yes!! I do want one!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So many to choose from!

And the winner is...

Marina Katie Funcat (What can I say- my baby is creative!) was holding on during the ride home!!

Abel thought we brought a toy home for him...

Precious!

Abel is driving himself crazy looking after both Ashlyn and this new kitten. He actually for the first time in a long time wanted to go outside today. I feel sorry for him when Kittrell gets here! He won't know who to follow around!

Monday....

Monday. It's been a long and boring day. And it's still too hot to function outside. Here's what I was thinking about while sweating my rear end off in the pool earlier.

I remember this picture like it was just yesterday. My pasture looks pretty covered in snow. And I remember being outside freezing, saying to myself, "I can't wait for summer." Next time, I will be careful about what I wish for.

I hate to think about it, but I'm afraid it's gonna be a slow and boring week. But, Daniel is off work Friday. And we get to go home for what I expect to be an awesome baby shower Saturday! I have a great family :). And Ashlyn can't wait to open presents Saturday! She's been patiently awaiting our baby shower just so she can open all the presents for me and Daniel. But hey, at least that means she's some what finally interested in her little brother! (Even if it's only the gifts she is interested in- she's at least showing some sort of interest.)

Hope everyone has a great week! Don't over heat, and heck, just don't go outside.

It's TOO Hot!!

Here's a pretty picture of outside to look at... because I'm staying inside out of the heat! Why is it so hot!! Ashlyn, of course, is planning on spending the afternoon in the pool. Me- on the couch. Well, the couch, partly because I just ate one huge Sunday lunch and will be stuffed for a few hours. Happy Sunday!! Try to stay cool, folks!

Willie's Pasta Gravy

It's what's for dinner. Well, it's what was for dinner.
How lucky am I? I woke up this morning and got some of the best pasta gravy in the world out of my freezer! Yes, my freezer! So, maybe the only reason I married my husband is the fact that his Godfather is Willie Leflore who makes the best pasta gravy in the universe. Ok, so the real reason I married my husband is because he is the best thing in the world- so so good to me, and my very best friend who always makes me feel like a queen! But the fact that he has awesome family doesn't hurt. I felt like I was sitting in Giardina's eating dinner.... but alas, I was in my living room! I think for Daniel's birthday, Willie should make him another batch of pasta gravy. Or just make it for us for no other reason than the fact that he loves us so much. I sure wish he read my blog!

New Stuff!

I'm loving this new addition in our kitchen. It may only be a dry erase board, but I love it. It's summer, though, so I don't seem to have too many notes and reminders written on it. But I'm sure when school starts back, we will get plenty of use out of it!

Also, here is Ashlyn's new summer home...

You know, we've always had one of these pools in our back yard every summer. When we lived in the Delta. With flat land. Living in the hills, it's not so easy to find a flat spot to put a pool. Which is why we've had so much trouble getting this thing up! And also, which is why the pool in pretty much almost in the middle of our driveway. But it's fine- my baby has a pool! We just have a semi rednecked up yard this summer. But hey- you should see some of the people around here.... So we are still good!

Oh- and while it's on my mind, Daniel- Kittrell really wants some brownies.
